Laboratorios Clausen S.A. is a national pharmaceutical company founded in the early nineteenth century, with a prestigious trajectory in Uruguay. From the beginning, Clausen developed a great range of products in industrial, veterinary and pharmaceutical areas, which were highly recognized in the local market from those days to the beginning of the last decade.

At the end of last century, Laboratorios Clausen focuses its efforts in the pharmaceutical area exclusively. In this way, during 1995 Clausen main new objectives are the specialized segments of the pharmaceutical market. In order to achieve this goal Biological and Biotechnological products are introduced, shaping in this manner a complete high technology line in areas such as: Oncology, Haemathology, Haemotherapy, Immunology, Transplants and Vaccines. Since then, over one thousand specialized Physicians on these areas of Uruguay, regularly receive information about Clausen’s products.

The fruition of this new strategy, and a suitable prices policy, according to the financial situation of local health institutions, Laboratorios Clausen has induced a great sales increase through more of 50 products related to the above mentioned specialist.

Over these years, other projects have been developed jointly with the National University. First contacts induced the agreement in which the quality controls of the different biotechnological products commercialized by Clausen were performed by the School of Medicine.

In 1997, and also together with the National University, begins the project “Design and Construction of an expression system of Human Recombinant Trombopoyetin”. This denotes a new experience in Uruguay; the interaction of a private company with the academic range.

Currently Laboratorios Clausen is perceived as clearly located in its work areas with an excellent human as well as scientific relationship with the physicians involved in the pharmaceutical specialties of its line. All the mentioned places Laboratorios Clausen S.A. in Uruguay as the main national company related to biotechnological pharmaceutical products.
